On 11-26-23 at 10:32PM the Colorado Springs Police Department received multiple calls for service reporting a loud explosion. The investigation led officers to the 200 block of North Logan Ave where they discovered a suspicious object that had been on fire. The CSPD Regional Explosives Unit responded to evaluate the suspicious object and determined it was not a threat to the community.

3000 De Cortez St

On November 25, 2023, at approximately 2:40 PM the Colorado Springs Police Department Communication Center received a 911 call of a shooting that occurred at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of the Cortez St. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment and was determined to be in critical condition. While on scene officers located the person responsible for the shooting. Due to the nature of the victim’s injuries, detectives from the Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. All parties involved are accounted for and there is no threat to the community. The investigation is on-going. On the above date and time Sand Creek officers responded to a residence in the 3600 blk of El Morro Rd for a report of a disturbance where shots were fired. Officers were able to make contact with the female victim and ultimately the male suspect. Due to the nature of the call for service, detectives from the Domestic Violence/Adult Sexual Assault unit responded and assumed the investigation. The male party was identified as Mark Stethem, a 64 yr old male. He was taken into custody for several charges to include 2nd Degree Assault and felony Menacing.

*UPDATE* - During the ongoing investigation, the suspect was positively identified as 20 year old Thaddeus Reyna. Mr. Reyna was taken into custody without incident.

On 11/22/2023 at approximately 08:30pm officers of the Stetson Hills Division were dispatched to a disturbance in the 3900 block of Loma Vista Pt. During their response, the call was upgraded to a shooting. Upon arrival the officers located a juvenile victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Assault Unit was contacted and took over the investigation. At this point all involved parties are accounted for, and there is no threat to the public.

1100 Mazatlan Circle
Location
On August 15, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Mazatlán Circle to assist the Humane Society with puppies locked in the trunk of a vehicle. 8 puppies (5 deceased) and 2 deceased kittens were located inside the vehicle. Since then two of those puppies died. CSPD began an investigation into animal cruelty.

The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for a filing decision. After the case was reviewed by the DA’s Office. An arrest warrant was issued for 9 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and 10 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. On 11/22/23 Officers went to the Mazatlán Circle address, and the suspect was arrested. While on scene, officers saw a malnourished dog inside the same vehicle the deceased puppies and kittens were found in, back in August. Officers also saw multiple malnourished dogs tied up in the back yard.

The Humane Society responded and executed a search warrant for the residence. The Humane Society cited the owner of the residence, with having too many animals at the residence, licensing and rabies requirements, and 3 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Another party was cited for 7 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. The Humane Society will serve the main suspect at a later time with 14 additional counts of animal cruelty.

A total of 7 adults dogs, 7 puppies, and 1 turtle were removed from the home by the Humane Society.

On 11/22/2023, at 5:25 PM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of N Union Blvd and Dublin Blvd regarding a traffic crash involving a motorcycle and a truck. Initial information is that the motorcycle was southbound on Union Blvd and the truck was Northbound making a left turn to travel west on Dublin Blvd. As the truck was making the unprotected left turn the motorcycle struck the right rear of the truck. The motorcycle rider was transported from the scene with serious life-threatening injuries. Due to the nature of the crash the Major Crash team was contacted and responded to the assume the investigation.
It is early in the investigation; however, speed does appear to be a factor.

UPDATE: As of 10:10PM all lanes of E Platte Ave are open to through traffic. The pedestrian involved in the crash was transported to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries, and the investigation into the crash is continuing.

On the above date and time the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of an auto-pedestrian crash in the area of E Platte Ave and N Academy Bl. Due to the scope of the investigation, eastbound E Platte Ave is shut down at N Academy Bl. Eastbound traffic on Platte is being diverted to north or southbound Academy Bl, with no traffic from Academy being allowed to access eastbound Platte as well. Citizens are advised to avoid the area at this time.
