UPDATE: As of 12/4/23 at 03:00AM, CSPD is no longer on Crash/Accident alert.

Starting at 10:00 AM on Sunday, December 03, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department will be on Crash Alert Status due to weather and road conditions. All traffic accidents may be cold reported or reported online with the following criteria: • No one died or was hurt, and; • There were no drugs or alcohol involved, and; • The wreck did not damage public property (e.g., road sign, utility pole, etc.), and; • All drivers in the accident are still there and everyone agrees to cold report, and; • All involved parties have vehicle and insurance information to exchange.

The above criteria apply even if the involved vehicle(s) will require a tow truck. For complete information regarding accident alert status and online accident reporting, please go to https://coloradosprings.gov/police-department/page/report-minor-traffic-accident . Cold traffic accident report forms (to be handwritten) are also available at any police department substations. To report a crash online, plus use the Colorado website https://dmv.colorado.gov/report-accident.

Everyone is reminded to take appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Before heading out, all drivers should check road and travel conditions and expect to take additional time to arrive at their destination. Due to the increased distance needed to stop on icy and slick roads, slower driving speeds and increased following distance between cars is highly recommended. Please plan your route based on streets which are the least hazardous during winter conditions. As always, please make sure you are clearing all windows of snow and ice prior to driving – visibility is significantly reduced during storm conditions. If your car does not have adequate snow tires, please consider delaying your travel until better conditions exist.

Detectives conducted surveillance on the vehicle and were able to identify the driver as 31 year old, Troy Remington. Remington had 3 active felony warrants out for his arrest, to include Aggravated Robbery. Detectives had information that he was armed with a gun. MVT Detectives contacted the CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit to assist in the apprehension of Remington. TEU officers, CSPD K9 officers, and UAS officers responded to assist MVT detectives.
MVT detectives followed Remington to the area of 3600 Purdue Street and observed Remington outside of the stolen vehicle. TEU officers and K9 officers moved in to contact Remington. Upon approach, Remington dove into the vehicle and attempted to flee. TEU officers were able to use their vehicles to pin the stolen vehicle in place. Once Remington realized he could not escape in the vehicle, he exited and attempted to run from officers. TEU officers apprehended Remington after a short foot chase and brief struggle.

Remington was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and possible fentanyl ingestion. He was then booked into CJC on his warrants.
