UPDATE December 25th: Both adult males transported to local hospitals are stable and still listed in serious condition. No arrests have been made. Again, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community.
At 4:34 pm on Sunday, December 24, 2023, CSPD received a call for service for shots fired at the Citadel Mall. Officers responded and determined that a fight had broken out between two groups of people. One adult male was found deceased in the mall from a gunshot wound. Two adult males were transported in serious condition to local hospitals, suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. One female was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. CSPD has multiple people detained and is working to determine their involvement. There is no known threat to the community at this time. The mall has been cleared and closed. The Colorado Springs Police Department is on Crash Alert status as of 12/24/2023 at 17:45 due to a critical incident. Drivers are reminded if they are involved in a traffic accident with no fatality or injury requiring medical attention, no driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, all drivers are present with license, registration and insurance information, and no damage to public property such as a street sign or utility pole has occurred, drivers should exchange their information and follow the procedure for completing a counter (cold) report. When damage to any vehicle requires a wrecker, a counter report can still be made providing the previous criteria is met. On December 23, 2023, at 7:16 PM, callers reported a traffic crash on I 25 Southbound just North of the North Nevada Exit – Mile Marker 148. A motorcycle and vehicle had crashed. The juvenile motorcycle rider sustained serious injury and was transported to an area hospital. Investigators learned the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes when the motorcycle crashed into the rear of another southbound vehicle. Traffic was reduced to a single lane during the investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not factors in the crash.

Officers from Sand Creek responded to a weapons violation / shots fired incident in the 1900-block of S. Chelton Road. Through the investigation, officers learned two small groups of individuals exchanged gunfire at two different locations in an apartment complex. One group was on foot and the other group was in a vehicle. Multiple vehicles and several apartment buildings were struck by gunfire as well as one uninvolved person was struck in the arm by shrapnel while sitting in her car. 2900 E. Woodmen Road
Location
Officers from the Stetson Hills Division and CSO’s from the Falcon Division responded to a 6-vehicle collision on E. Woodmen Road east of Union. The initial investigation showed a sedan was westbound on E. Woodmen Road. It struck another westbound vehicle from behind, pushing this vehicle over the center median into oncoming traffic. The vehicle struck two eastbound vehicles causing one of them to cross the median into westbound traffic. Two additional vehicles collided while avoiding the collision. Speed may be a factor in the collision. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be contributing factors in the collision.
On the above date and time, Officers with the SandCreek Division responded to the 2100 Block of Delta Drive, on a report of a Domestic Disturbance. The initial report indicated that the subject was on parole and armed with a handgun, had assaulted the victim, and was keeping her barricaded in the apartment. As officers made contact at the apartment, the suspect fled the apartment. Officers established a perimeter and additional resources responded to include the CSPD Drone Unit. A drone located the suspect behind a building. Officers with the Tactical Unit also responded. The suspect was contacted and placed into custody. The situation has been contained and there is no danger to the public.

8700 block of Wolf Valley Dr

On 12/19/2023 at approximately 09:30pm officers from the Stetson Hills Division were dispatched to a shooting which had occurred in the 8700 block of Wolf Valley Dr. One victim was contacted in a vehicle while another was dropped off at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Due to the complexity of the investigation, the Assault Unit was contacted and took over the investigation. No arrests have been made at this point. The investigation is ongoing.
On 12/19/23 at about 9:28PM, an officer who was working an extra-duty assignment at a store in the 3200 block of E. Platte Ave. recognized a female in the business who was known to shoplift and also had warrants. When the officer attempted to contact the female who was trying to exit the store with stolen items, she resisted arrest. While the officer was attempting to subdue her a male accomplice punched the officer several times. Both suspects fled the store, and then left the area in a vehicle which drove recklessly. Both parties have been identified and officers will be attempting to locate them.
