On 12/12/23 at approximately 1522 hours Officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of New Center Pt for a smash and grab business robbery. The suspect entered the business, flashed a handgun, and then left with electronics from the business. The suspect then ran into a nearby business while being followed by a store employee. This employee recognized the suspect exiting the business wearing different clothing. A foot chase ensued and while being chased by officers the suspect ran into a nearby restaurant that was full of customers. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect in the walk-in kitchen freezer of the business.
Effective Monday, December 11th, 2023 @ 2021 hours, the intersection is now open for safe travel North / South with the #2 lane of traffic, and no left hand turn at the intersection of 30th Street. A temporary repair has been completed at the intersection of Centennial Bl. and N. 30th St. This location will again be partially obstructed on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 at 0700 hours while the roadway is re-paved and permanently repaired. This repair is estimated to take 3-4 hours.
On 12/11/23 at approx. 0620 Hrs., the Colorado Springs Police Dept. received a call for an assist from C.S. Utilities for a water main break flooding the area at Centennial Bl. and N. 30th St. C.S. Utilities is on scene and advised that the intersection will be under repair and construction tentatively until 12/11/23 at approx. 1900 Hrs.
On 12/11/2023 at 0613 hours, CSPD received a report of a weapons display at UCHealth Memorial Central. The caller reported a male outside the location was armed with firearms, and had then moved into the location with the weapons. Multiple officers from the Gold Hill and Sand Creek divisions responded to ensure public safety and there was briefly a heavy police presence at the location. Ultimately, it was determined that the male in question had not actually been armed with any weapons and there was no threat to the community.

On 12/09/23 at 1759 hrs, CSPD was notified of a hit-and-run vehicle versus Pedestrian crash in the 500 block of W. Garden of the Gods Rd. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and transported the Pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. A vehicle was traveling eastbound on W. Garden of the Gods Rd. in the 500 block. The Pedestrian was possibly crossing northbound W. Garden of the Gods Rd near the I-25 intersection. Based on this information the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Eastbound W. Garden of the Gods Rd at I-25 was closed for several hours while investigators completed their work. It is early in the investigation and detectives are still developing suspect vehicle information.

On 12/08/2023 at approximately 15:09 hours, Officers from the Stetson Hills Division responded to the 3300 Block of N. Academy Blvd. to investigate a report of individuals passed out in a vehicle. Upon arrival, Officers located the vehicle and it fit the description of a prior reported stolen motor vehicle. When Officers attempted contact with the occupants, the driver moved the vehicle striking 2-Police Cruiser and sped away. This was a localized incident, no immediate danger to the public.
On 12/08/2023, at 2:48 PM, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Sand Creek Division, were dispatched to the intersection of Airport Rd and Chelton Rd regarding a traffic crash involving an automobile and a pedestrian. Upon officers’ arrival the pedestrian was transported from the scene by AMR to a local hospital. Officers learned when the pedestrian arrived at the hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries and passed away. Officers further learned that the automobile involved left the scene prior to contact with officers. Due to the nature of the crash the Major Crash Team was contacted and responded to the scene to assume the investigation. The investigation showed that the pedestrian was crossing Airport Rd from the south to the north and may not have been in the cross walk at the time of the crash. The vehicle was traveling west on Airport Rd and continued west after the crash. It is early in the investigation and detectives are still developing suspect vehicle information.

Officers from the Sand Creek Division responded to the 3600 block of Overton Street for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon. The reporting party claimed to have been attacked with a machete by his landlord. Upon arrival the officers were able to contact the reporting party, who was uncooperative. They also contacted the landlord. The investigation did not substantiate the reporting party’s version of events. Officers left the scene but were immediately called back for a disturbance. The new investigation revealed the original reporting party threatened to shoot the landlord’s adult son. Officers were able to safely evacuate the landlord and family. The Tactical Enforcement Unit was contacted. The suspect peacefully surrendered.
