On Tuesday, March 26th Detectives with CSPD Metro Units worked with the Department of Revenue executing multiple search warrants at different locations for an Organized Retail Crime investigation. During the warrants, detectives arrested 1 individual on Tax Evasion charges brought by the Department of Revenue. More arrests are expected in this investigation. During the search, military surplus items were located and ARMY CID was contacted to responded and assist. Multiple items were seized during the execution of the warrant and the investigation is continuing. Local retailers assisted in this investigation working closely with detectives on this as well as many other cases.

On 03/23/2024 at approximately 0310, CSPD responded to a report of a shooting in the 2500 block of Hancock Expressway. On 3/20/2024 at approximately 1620 hours Officers of the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 3600 block of N. Academy Blvd where a party arrived by private vehicle with one gunshot wound to his torso area. Officers learned the shooting occurred in the 3600 block of Jeannine Drive. The victim sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury. No suspect/suspects are in custody at this time. Our initial investigation indicates this does not appear to be a random act of violence. The investigation is ongoing.

On March 19, 2024, at about 07:24am officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to a report of a found explosive in the area of the 2700 Block of Bentley Point. The reporting party was a member of the construction crew working in the area. The RP advised they uncovered what appeared to be a “Mortar “round while moving earth. The investigation later revealed the device was very old and rusted, however it did appear to be military explosive ordnance. The regional explosives unit responded and determined the item to be hollow/inert. The bomb detection dog was deployed in the area and no further suspicious devices were located at this time.
