TEU - K9 Activity
Title
500 East Platte Avenue
Location
On 01-30-2024 at approximately 1130 am, Colorado Department of Corrections Division of Adult Parole Officer Hathaway assigned to Fugitive Operations and attached to the Metro Armed Violent Offender Unit (AVOU), contacted the CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) to assist in the arrest of a wanted parolee. Hathaway observed the parolee park a vehicle and enter a business in the 500 block of East Platte Avenue. Hathaway believed the parolee to be armed and dangerous.
Tac teams from TEU, CSPD Police K9 Milo escorted by his handler Officer Comstock, Unmanned Arial Systems (UAS) Officer Campbell, along with Patrol Officer Paul Hubbard moved into the area of 500 East Platte Avenue.
When the parolee returned to his vehicle, TEU officers blocked the vehicle in. The parolee initially tried to ram out of the block, but was unsuccessful. Upon seeing that fleeing from officers in the vehicle was not going to work, he exited the vehicle and started to run on foot. The parolee quickly encountered Police Canine Milo and wisely dove to the ground to surrender. He was taken into custody with no injuries.
In plain view, on the driver's side floorboard, was a loaded handgun and several boxes of ammunition. When Parole Officers searched the vehicle, they also located over 800 Fentanyl pills and a large quantity of cash.
Further investigation by AVOU members led to the execution of a search warrant. During the search, AVOU and Parole Officers located an additional two (2) assault rifles, three (3) stolen handguns, and additional illegal narcotics all linked to the parolee.
All officers involved should be commended for their efforts in safely arresting an armed and dangerous fugitive determined to escape arrest while using minimal force through excellent planning and execution of tactics, and the loud barking of Milo of course. Along with the recovery of 6 illegally possessed firearms and a large quantity of a very dangerous narcotic that will not be distributed in our community.
As this is an ongoing investigation no further information is being released at this time.
